A short Internship in the Thermo-Electric Plant
At the beginning of this semester, we seniors had a one-week internship in the Guodian Changyuan Jingmen Thermo-Electric Plant.
The Guodian Changyuan Jingmen Thermo-Electric Plant, founded in 1976, is located in the east industrial zone in Jingmen, Hubei. The installed capacity reaches up to 1.64 billion kW, and the total assets are estimated at 5.1 billion yuan. Since the establishment of the plant, the generation summed up to 90 billion kWh, which made a significant contribution for central China’s national economic construction.
To start with, we all accepted the safe education, as safe production is vitally related to the workers’ lives and the operation of the Plant. The engineers introduced the working process about the desulfurization unit and the waste water treatment unit in detail, and then showed us around the plant with patient explanations. When coming to the worksites of these two units, we students became more interested, because it has something to do with our professional knowledge from the textbook.
In the following days, we were divided into several groups to join a regular shift with workers. In the desulfurization control room, the engineer was very enthusiastic to give us a deep understanding of the theory, and operation about the factory by drawing flow charts.
Finally, the teachers arranged a knowledge contest. We students had a positive response and got good scores, some even got rich prizes.
It is often said, the university is an ivory tower. However, by personally doing the work, our horizons were broadened, and our understanding of profession was deepened, such as the sewage treatment cycle, denitrification process and automatic control of dust removal. We eventually felt the power of “serious, clear, pragmatic and innovative” spirit of enterprise, and had an overall comprehension of the environmental-friendly production, chemical equipment and process flow, etc. The internship not only stimulated the students’ interests in learning the theoretical knowledge, but also laid a good foundation for the follow-up study and employment.
Last but not least, thanks to the teachers’ accompany and guidance, they carefully looked after us and ensured our safety.
