The first East-lake Workshop on Resource and Energy Sustainable Technology (EW-REST) was successfully held by the Hubei International Scientific and Technological Cooperation Base of Sustainable Resource and Energy, during 21-23, April, 2017 in Wuhan University. Over 40 delegates were present, including 1000-talents-plan experts, winners of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, the National Science Fund for Excellent Young Scholars and the 1000 Talents Plan, a fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering, and a fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering.

In forms of 6 keynote lectures and 16 invited lectures, the following topics were discussed: green metallurgy, new energy materials and technology, disposal and high-value technology of waste, coordination technique between development of resources and environment, capture, storage and utilization of CO2. Resource and energy sustainable technologies, which bring a promising opportunity and space, strongly correspond to national strategic demands towards energy saving and emission reduction, environmental governance, and the development of emerging industries. It is exciting that passionate young researchers are in rapid growing-up, who comprise a vigorous force. Since multi-crossed disciplines and industry-university-research collaboration are the features of resource and energy sustainable technologies, collaborative innovation of scientists, engineers and technicians, and industry personals is required according to national key strategic demands and local economic development.

The topics and forms of this forum were highly appraised by experts and scholars, and they reached an agreement to meet in the second EW-REST and make the EW-REST become an influential academic exchange platform. Prof. Gan even wrote a piece of Seven-Character poem to celebrate the success of this forum.

This forum was supported by the Science and Technology Department of Hubei Province and the Office of Scientific Research and Development of Wuhan University, sponsored by Jiangsu Huafu High Technology Energy Storage Co., Ltd..
